Trivia and Gratitude - episode 136

Shaun is back to answer Thanksgiving trivia questions for the Thankful and Giving Back series we are in this month.  Like do you know how long the first Thanksgiving lasted?  Or which Christmas song was supposed to be sung on Thanksgiving Day?  This round is very entertaining with guaranteed chuckles.

Whether in the US or not, we can 'be still' and notice all the many gifts around us.  I like that Shaun brought that up as a conversation point.  Are you currently keeping a list, a journal or verbal record of the simple pleasures that each day brings?  If you start, it will change your life.

Was that Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson?

A funny bit that ran throughout the conversation

Dear Georgia

Thoughts from Trivia and Gratitude

Ron and I just got back from our first trip to Georgia. Our youngest, Taylor, moved there with her husband as he’s from there. The cost of living is lower there than here in California and overall things are cheaper. (Darn you, California, land that I love. You cost a lot and it’s hard for young people to live here.)

So a letter to Georgia.

Dear Georgia,

Thank you for welcoming our daughter. It’s been tough having her so far away and yet we are coping. It’s been three months but it feels like three years. You are across the country from us and we noticed right away things are different. You change quickly weather-wise and your woods are beautiful. The charm and style of the old South are evident in little pockets here and there. We didn’t get to explore a huge part of you but we did get to stay in Gainesville with Longhorn Steakhouse being worthy of visiting twice. Dawsonville, Gainesville, and Cumming: we appreciate your hospitality. Oh and Tams Tupelo, the sweet potato biscuits were delicious!

Your people are polite. There is a lot of ma’am and sir to either make you feel old or more likely to show respect you really haven’t earned. Taylor’s in-laws have taken her in as one of their own. I like that. It helps me feel a measure of comfort to soothe this aching heart. She has a real shot at making a life in your state and she feels right at home. If she can’t be near us then I’m glad she is with you where she can thrive.

North Georgia Premium Outlets: you were a treat on a very rainy day. Just me and my daughter shopping, laughing, holding hands. It was so good to be together. Taylor may have even landed her first job in retail. Big shout out to Miller’s Ale House as our lunch was satisfying and tasty. Then back for a bit more shopping. We struck a deal. Taylor would try on any pair of shoes I brought her if I would put the previous pair away. Now that was fun! Lots of laughs as she tried on shoes she would not ever have picked out. The whole thing was a bonding time.

Although we were with you only four nights we know we will be back. Not only to see Taylor but because there is more we want to experience: Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta and of course way more Dawsonville. Always Dawsonville. We will want to be where she is.

Until next time,

Rechelle
