A Bite-Sized Truth - episode 214

She is currently living in a place called “Where America’s Day Begins.”  The US territory of Guam is where Annie Weber is and where she felt called to share the purpose born from her passion.  It’s helping people understand the Bible, so she wrote a book and formatted it in a way to make different passages easier to understand.  It’s called Astounding Truths of the Bible.  Annie takes a verse, explains the context, and helps you turn it into a prayer.   All of this done in a relatable way as she weaves humor and personal stories into the mix.  I just ordered mine and am looking forward to diving in.

Annie Weber wrote Astounding Truths of the Bible because she wanted people to be able to understand it in bite-sized pieces. She makes it relatable and ends each truth with a prayer.

Purposeful. Zealous. Reflective.

What Does it Take?

Thoughts from A Bite-Sized Truth

What does it take to be a guest on Unabashed You? Honestly there are no requirements other than you want to come on and share a bit of who you are, that you are willing to have a conversation and just ‘be you’ is where it’s at. Now I will say there is a line between sharing and selling. I’m all about the former and not interested in the latter.

On occasion I’ve had a manager of some sort email me to ask if their client can be a guest. My response has gotten fine-tuned over time with three points. One, I want their client to listen to at least one episode to get a flavor of the show. Two, they need to look at the questions I send for the Get to Know You portion of the show. You know, the questions I ask first-time guests. (They change if someone comes on again.)

  • Anything you want listeners to know about you to start?

  • 3 words to describe yourself

  • Two truths and a lie

  • One of your favorite movies of all time

  • Name a person that inspires you

  • A piece of wisdom you keep handy

And the third thing I ask is that they should show up as themselves without coming from the angle of “pitching.” What do I mean by that? Most every guest who has come on the show has done some really cool thing, be it to write a book, provide services, or host their own podcast to name a few. But there is a huge difference between sharing a passion you have that you’ve turned into a purpose, versus simply hawking whatever it is you’re selling. Do you get the distinction? Did you write a book? Great! Tell me why you had to write it and how you arrived there, the unique journey you had. Was it born out of a passion? How did you decide to make it a purpose? Let’s chat about that.

Another distinction is we have a conversation. I don’t interview people. Yes I ask questions but the idea is to have a dialogue, a back and forth around a part of their story. I find people fascinating and I’m curious about how they have navigated their life. As you can tell I’m especially interested in the passion they have and if they have found a way to make it a purpose because I need you to show up in your life fully you and to do the thing only you can do. I benefit if you do and others do too. The sweet spot? You will likely benefit most of all because you will be fulfilled as you meet challenges, exercise your creative muscle and share this gift whatever that might look like.

Don’t think you have anything to contribute? Wrong! You’re here. You have a story that is unique to you and you alone, gifts given just for you. You have chapters within that story and if you are not mining them for insights, for what lights you up, for learning from, then you are missing out. Does the thought of being a guest on UY make you excited and just a little bit scared? If it does it’s a green light and you should reach out - let’s make it happen. And if it’s a hard no? You’re in good company. I have loved ones who simply cannot fathom doing such a thing. And that’s ok. They get to be them and you get to be you. Just don’t miss out on the things you want to do. Do them scared if need be but for the love of God, do them. You’ll be so glad you did.

‘Being you’ is more than merely existing.
