An Art-filled Journey to “Yes” - episode 63

Next up for “Insta-Summer” we have Pavitra Eshwar, expressionist artist of abstract, whimsical, socially-conscious pieces.  She started out in corporate America and followed the compelling nudge to pivot to do, and be, the thing that would not leave her alone.  Being an artist. She had to.  Teaching herself through practice, she also watched her daughter draw which ended up influencing the style she has landed on.  Pavitra’s artwork is a reflection of who she is - compelling, thought-provoking and as she herself says, her art is easy on the eyes.

Something that resonated with me is being in a place of asking and putting yourself out there.  I didn’t have anything to lose.  The worst they can say is no are brilliant things to tell yourself when you are reaching for your dreams, and you look to others who may be able to help with opportunity and support.  I highly recommend you check out Pavitra’s artwork on Instagram @pigmenttouche.  Feel free to follow her there, and let me know what you think.  I am already a fan.

Whimsy

Thoughts from An Art-filled Journey to “Yes”

I love whimsy. If you have been tuning-in for long, following me on social media, or happen to know me, you know how much I enjoy being playful, which is the definition of whimsy by the way. In fact it’s built into the mission statement of UY: “Unabashed You - Women talking about stuff. It’s a place where we can be uniquely ourselves without apology. We want to be wise, to know our worth, and to enjoy whimsy.” There it is.

It’s part of who I am. I am drawn to it in life - in my relationships, in the entertainment I seek, how I go through a day, and the things I choose to have in my environment. A few examples: often something happens in the rhythm of my day when it hits 10:00 pm. This was especially true back when I worked in the restaurant industry. I found random things funny and pulled some shenanigans to get a laugh from co-workers. (In fact recently I posted my first “reel” on Instagram and one of my good friends asked what time of day I made the reel. She was betting it was at 10:00 pm! As of this writing I have posted two reels on IG and they are both whimsical.) Another way I get through each day is texting with my first friend, Mary. In addition to sharing the real, deep stuff with each other, we are motivated to make the other laugh so there are a lot of goofy memes and gifs. The more obscure and random to express a thought the better because then hilarity will ensue.

Lastly I look for whimsy in the pieces I add to our home. Not everything, or course, but enough to please the senses. I pined for a work of art for several years before I went for it and purchased it. It makes me smile, brings me joy. Which leads to Pavitra’s art. I really was breathless when I first saw her stuff on Instagram because it was whimsical. I was drawn in. Some time went by and we decided to see if she would be open to a commission. She was, and someday soon we will also be the proud owners of one of her pieces. So to get a feel for her work, here are two of her pieces. And if you like what you see you can follow her @pigmenttouche on Instagram. Enjoy!
