“Inizi,” Italian for ‘Beginnings’ - episode 120
We’re starting Insta Summer 2 today. It’s a series featuring people we’re connecting with on Instagram. We did this last summer too. There are good parts to social media and getting to know new people is one of them.
Christina Lim is a jewelry artist and designer who decided to follow her passion no matter what, after a stint in the corporate world. She claimed “inizi” or “beginnings” (in Italian) when she took a leap of faith. Christina wanted to follow, “See where things take you when you are being you.”
(Thanks in advance for your patience as we navigated a few audio issues during our conversation.)
Many of us would agree when you are doing something you love it doesn’t feel like work at all. Christina’s choice to work late into the night when things are quiet works for her well, and maybe it would for you too. Part of the point of this life is to try things on and see what feels right. In as much as you’re able, discard the ones that don’t, but keep the ones that do.
Closer than You Think
Thoughts from “Inizi,” Italian for Beginnings
As I prepared Christina’s episode I got to thinking about how she loves Italian and spent three years learning the language, how she lives in a part of the world far from me, and how technology can connect us. The world becomes smaller when you realize you can have conversations across the globe. Then I decided to check the geography of our latest listeners and I was delighted to find some miles and miles from where I am in California.
For starters we had some listeners from Macedonia. What are they about again? A few facts:
Officially the Republic of North Macedonia
A Southeast Europe country
Formerly a part of Yugoslavia
One of the world’s largest underwater caves
Language: Macedonian
Next we had some people from the Marshall Islands listen to the podcast. Not a place you hear about often, which led me to want to know more. These are a few things I found out:
Known as the Republic of the Marshall Islands
Located between Hawaii and the Philippines
Gained independence from US in 1979
On a continent named Oceania
Languages: Marshallese, English
Lastly Indonesia listeners showed up. I’ve heard of Indonesia many times, and maybe even studied it somewhere along the way. Wanted to glean a little more, here we go.
Known as the Republic of Indonesia
Southeast Asia between Indian and Pacific oceans
Has 17,508 islands and Bali is the most visited
Famous for volcanos, they have 147
Languages: Indonesia, Javalese
Wow! I relish that somebody or somebodies in this far away places took the time to check out Unabashed You. I hope the message of being fully who you are speaks sweetly into the ears of those who can access the internet, take advantage of feeling like we are more connected than the miles suggest. Because of this, we are all closer than you think.
We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.
– Thornton Wilder
We are treasuring you, listeners…
