Getting Your Own Approval - episode 292

So often we’re looking for permission.

We think it’s permission externally, outside of ourselves, when in actuality it’s permission within ourselves to do something, try something, be something and we shrink in.  We shrink in to what we perceive of as obstacles, different fears that look so many different ways.

We created a Companion Guide to go with this particular series, Permission to Want More: What’s Next and What’s Left.  We’re looking at that with questions.  Things for you to think about, and for me to think about.

Our answers matter.  They give us information that may actually lead to, permission.

Approval. Consent. Authorization.

— They all mean the same thing: permission

How Do I Shine?

Thoughts from Getting Your Own Approval

I’m getting a lot of mileage out of the photos taken by Rigel Jackson. (In them, I’m wearing a fuchsia dress and quite clearly they are more professional looking than the ones I take of myself on my phone.) I met Rigel (pronounced ree-helle; think Spanish pronunciation) at a conference last September. One of the perks we got by attending was having our photos taken by her. She calls herself a ‘Visual Confidence Engineer’ which is a brilliant, creative title.

As she says, I help women step into their confidence and see themselves in a whole new light. Through a personalized, empowering photography experience, we’ll capture the real, powerful you—whether for your personal growth or business. Let’s create something unforgettable together. How is that for something we all need?

Rigel has given herself permission, permission to empower her clients to see themselves, perhaps in a new light, or at least in a more emboldened one. I am inspired by what she is doing for us ‘regular gals.’ (Really no one is regular but we often sell ourselves way short. Can you relate?)

In her words, Hi, I’m Rigel, and my mission is to help women step in front of the camera and truly see their beauty and strength. As a former engineer turned portrait photographer, I combine strategy with creativity to give women 35+ a space to feel empowered, embrace their true selves, and see their confidence shine through every photo.

I can relate to the journey, it wasn’t long ago that I felt just as nervous about the camera as many of my clients do. Over time, I went from avoiding the camera to it becoming my favorite place to be and express myself. This is your chance to let go of self-doubt and step into the confidence you’ve always had within.

I’m here to guide you through a session that’s all about YOU, celebrating your unique beauty and helping you see yourself in a way that’s empowering, authentic, and real. No need to be “perfect”, just come as you are, and let’s create something that truly reflects the amazing woman you are today.

We have stayed connected through Instagram. I’ve asked her to be a guest and she will let me know. I’m guessing she will say, yes. As she stretches herself online, I see some of myself in her, and I see my clients in her: wanting to shine, but not sure how to do it.

You know what is so fascinating? I had no idea I was going to write about Rigel this afternoon as I sat down to write this blog. Yet there was something that spoke to me about the photo I chose for this week’s podcast episode (see above) that got me thinking about her: How she is learning, and growing to serve women. (I’m sure she wouldn’t turn any men down who want their photos taken.) As she takes your picture, she wants you to feel confident, to show up confident, to know you are all that and a bag of chips. (Remember our last series?) When I look at the photos she took of me, I feel confident. I think, look at that. I am doing it.

She sees your beauty (she saw mine) and she wants you to see it too.

Rigel is doing the thing that only she can do. I need her to. And so do you.

From fear to favorite.
