I Knew There was More Out There - episode 159

She likes people who are authentic, who have gone through a challenge and come out the other side, all the better for having gone through it. - an opportunity for growth.  That’s Ellen Burgan, Confidence and Joy Coach, this week’s guest.  And if you’ve been listening to this podcast then you know that kind of talk is right up my alley.  Maybe that’s why I was drawn to Ellen on Instagram.  Kindred spirits and all that.

After 30 years in the business world, having raised children who are now independent, as Ellen put it, she was not ready to get out her knitting needles just yet.  Of course that’s a playful way to say she still wanted to do something, something of service.  And that is what she has done.  Ellen listened to the nudges and found her way into doing the thing she loves doing.  Coaching others into confidence and joy.

Inspiration for Your Journey

Thoughts from I Knew There was More Out There

Service. That is a word Ellen used in describing what she still wanted to do after the kids had grown, and the career was done. It’s what I have attempted in these conversations, in these pages. Not only to serve but to encourage. As I look back I realize asking myself certain questions also was a part of how I arrived here.

Three different questions come to mind when I consider what the driving forces were on my journey.

1.  What are you waiting for?  This showed up in more than one instance so I knew I needed to listen.  The time was here to take the risk instead of wondering what would have happened if I had only tried.  "Then the day came when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." -- Anais Nin

2.  Who would you be if you weren't afraid?  A great one to work through your fears.  You owe it to yourself to figure out who you are.  The discovery can be fun and is very freeing.  Accepting the whole package: strengths, weaknesses, they make you who you are.  “To achieve all that is impossible, we must attempt the impossible, to be all that we can be, we must dream of being more.” - John C. Maxwell

3.  What's the worst thing that could happen?  Worst-case-scenario is a great strategy.  It helps to take the wind out of fear.  Once you dial it down you realize if nothing else you will take your newfound knowledge with you and you will pivot.  There is nothing wrong with that.  "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." -- Wayne Gretzky

You likely know my love for words. It brings me great joy to share with you some thoughts, the words of others, a peek into what brought me to this creative endeavor, and how very fulfilling I have found it. May they inspire you on your own journey.

How will you feel if you DON’T try?
