I Lost Myself in All of That - episode 158

“I do what I want.”  Trish Boaz has come a long way from losing herself during the busy years of raising kids, and working for a non-profit.  Since retiring and moving back to her hometown she has made herself a priority.  She’s made a point to ‘under-extend’ her obligations, so she can focus on inside development, back to what is important: herself.

With good years behind her she’s in the sweet spot of retirement, enjoying her time out in nature, which is the place she basks in, learns from, and leans into.  And there is the joy of family and friends.  Trish wonders about important things like how she can spread love one person at a time, and how to encourage others to get back to themselves.  Be your first love.  Let’s start there.

Trish Boaz has rediscovered herself after a life of raising kids and working for a non-profit. Now she can focus on inside development.

Committed. Honest. Insightful.

New Purpose after a Double-Whammy

Thoughts from I Lost Myself in All of That

Once you've had a double-whammy happen (in my case a rebellious teenager going off the rails along with a friend's surprising betrayal - aren't they always surprising?), you can come out of that bitter or better.  You've got a choice, really.  Once I felt all the feels, processed and began to recover, I felt a sense of starting over in a profound way.

I asked myself, What qualities are so important to you now that you will insist on embodying them yourself, and be drawn to the same in others?  For me the answer was simple.  Authenticity.  Transparency.  Vulnerability.  Sure there are lots of other good ones and I hope people see more in me but these three are the trifecta of beginnings.

I also had all this creativity bubbling up inside of me that needed an outlet.  I'm an educator by profession and while that's not a sexy word it means wanting to impart, wanting to instill.  I've been doing it professionally and personally for years.  That's one of the benefits of aging, the experience that comes along with it.

Enter the podcast and blog Unabashed You.  Each guest comes as they are and shares a part of their story, along with their passion.  We have a conversation and both leave feeling more complete and connected.  I get to do many of the things I'm good at, and the ones I'm not, I learn about.

My purpose is to encourage authenticity.  I want those I connect with to feel permission to be uniquely who they are.  We'd all have more fulfilling, expanded lives if we each did.

Bitter or better? It’s your choice.
