My Bosom Buddy - Episode 22

This expression dates back to the 1500’s. And no, I’m not that old. It’s also a TV show, Bosom Buddies, with Tom Hanks from the earlier 80’s. Yes, I am that old. For me it has double meaning. Not only does it mean close friend it is also a nod to how our paths crossed. Isha and I met for the first time when we both had mammogram scares. We were drawn to each other, connected quickly, and ended up becoming friends. (You can hear more about our story during the episode.). As we got to know each other I learned of her interest in fashion, food, fitness and faith. She created a brand with these four pillars. It’s how she lives. It’s who she is. Thankfully she has shared it with us.

Every One of Us Has Beauty

Isha reminds us of this truth, Every one of us has beauty. I believe every woman (probably some men too) struggle with this. I know that I have, and do. Much less so as time goes on. But still. We have spent far too much time putting ourselves down, hiding behind clothes we’ve compromised on, instead of wearing with confidence something that we actually would look good in if we only had just a bit more courage.

I really saw this in action at the beach yesterday. First off, I have decided to wear a bathing suit that I like, looks decent on me (my descriptive) and to embrace it. Otherwise I would be wearing a “bathing costume” from the early 1900’s. Not interested in that but it would cover every flaw, dimple, and untoned muscle that makes me, me. So back to yesterday. I was noting that so many women were wearing two-piece suits, bikinis really, and that many of these women did not have perfect bodies (who does?) - thin, well-toned with no noticeable flaws. I observed they did so with confidence, exactly as Isha shares in this episode. I was so moved by the array of women I saw, the female shape in all it’s variety and the CHOICE each woman there had made to simply be themselves. Inspiring? Yes. Authentic? Yes. Fabulous? You bet! EVERY ONE OF US HAS BEAUTY and it’s high-time we claimed it and lived like we did. Drop the mic.

Here’s to us!

There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty.— Steve Maraboli
