Pouring is an Action Word -episode 142

It was lovely to have Micah Burog back on the show.  (She was with us once before in Am I Making a Difference? Episode 61.)  As I’ve mentioned previously, my time in children’s theater was very fulfilling, working with creative, enthusiastic, and kind people like Micah was a big part of that.  I’m happy to hear she is pursuing a career in eduction.  She will thrive.  In this conversation we talked a bit about Christmas.  Then I asked what were her takeaways from 2022, and what does she see for 2023.

It turns out 2021 was a tough year for Micah as it was for many of us.  Her phrase for that year was ‘intentional impact.’  For 2022 she went with ‘release and embrace’ which is a positive way to make the best out of what comes your way.   And as she shared with us the phrase she will likely carry into 2023 is ‘pouring.’  This will be pouring into others with love even if she doesn’t know them, and pouring into herself.   It’s a very valuable, and healthy choice.

I can mold ‘pouring’ into different parts of my life.

Still a Little Bit Christmas-y

Thoughts from Pouring is an Action Word

As I write this it is one day after Christmas, I’m still feeling a bit Christmas-y. (I think once you’re past New Year’s then it’s definitely back to whatever your normal is and you’ll need to wait until the following December for that special festive time.) The day after the big event I am feeling spent in the best way. Tired and not like I want to accomplish too much. I did exchange texts with a friend who was only going to be in town one more day. We decided to meet for coffee. Although truth be told I drink tea instead.

We met at a local movie theater of all places. It’s one of those that serves food and has several hangout spots. We ordered tea and got to talking promptly. Lots to catch up on although it had only been a few days since we communicated. Texting, emailing, even talking on the phone is very different than looking into eyes and being with someone face-to-face. I rallied and it was a joy.

You see the friend was Mark. Mark Sparrow. He’s been on the show a few times: The Early Side of Late, episode 114; Keep Your Dreams Alive, episode 50; Takeaway and Looks Ahead, episode 91. We’ve been friends since junior high and have had more than our share of shenanigans together. But isn’t that the glue that keeps us connected? I love having that rich history with him.

Once we covered as many topics as time would allow: Christmas, family, relationships, upcoming vacations, even a little religion and politics got snuck in there. Time was up and I gave him a ride to his car. I asked him if he’d heard Glow by Brett Eldredge. He wasn’t sure and so I played it for him. It’s definitely a Christmas song and has a great big band sound, terrific vocals, and makes you want to sing and dance. We kind of did that as best we could while seated in a car. Since Mark’s a singer he’s going to learn the song and add it to his repertoire. It’s that good. Look it up. You’ll be glad you did.

Nothin' could ever compare to this feelin' in the air…

Come on, just glow, I love to watch you glow

— Brett Eldredge, lyrics from Glow
