The Early Side of Late - episode 114

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you actually did the thing you really wanted to do?  We’ve got Mark Sparrow here today to tell us about his own experience with this.  Mark set out to reach for a goal, and did not let fear stop him.  He’s a good friend of the show, and we had a great conversation about this very topic in Keep Your Dreams Alive episode 50.

Really, what’s the worst thing that could happen if you went for your dreams?  On the one hand it might not come to fruition the way you imagined.  Maybe it even fails.  Is that really so bad?  I bet you’d learn a bunch on the way and then maybe decide to pivot.   On the other hand, what if it succeeds and becomes more than you could hope for or imagine?  What about that?  Mark makes some excellent points about keeping your dreams alive.  I hope you feel encouraged to pursue yours.  And if we can help in any way, please let us know.

I can do more than I think I can.

— Mark Sparrow

Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now

Thoughts from The Early Side of Late

A song popped into my head while Mark and I were talking, Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now. As the lyrics went through my head I thought of a few people that had a dream, a passion, and decided to go for it no matter what. Let’s celebrate a few of them here:

Marcella Johnson created the Comfort Cub - “In 1999 I was 6 months pregnant with my third baby. That is when my husband and I got the devastating news that our unborn baby boy had a congenital, life-limiting prognosis. The doctors told us if he lived to term he could die during the delivery. If he survived the delivery, he would die shortly after. There was no way to prepare for news like this, there was no way to get my mind around the idea of life and death surfacing at the same time.”

Chris Barber coaches people at DreamBuilder Coach -“We help you learn how to rely on and believe in your unlimited potential and power. We already know that you've experienced flashes of intuitive knowledge and big thinking that has you wondering just how far you could go if only. We're here to help you stir up that innate knowing and self-trust already instilled deep in your soul. We help you forge forward when the “old you” would rather give up and turn back.”

Bijou Mushengezi started Moseka Action Project - “A nonprofit organization that operates exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, or scientific purpose without limitation, the purposes of serving women and children affected by war, sexual violence, and poverty in the Democratic Republic of Congo by providing physical, emotional, social and/or spiritual support through targeted projects and partnerships with like-minded organizations.”

Deborah Sorlie ignited a fashion movement to #embraceyouragenow in middle age and can be found at Deborah Sorlie. “As a personal stylist, I am very passionate about helping and styling women to look their best in their midlife. My past experiences as a Nordstrom fashion show coordinator, personal shopper, and special event coordinator have led me to where I am today. I love opening that door to new style options for that ageless woman.”

These are just a few of the people who have been on UY and are living out their passion. The lyrics to the song mentioned above are very fitting to the theme of not letting fear stop us from doing the things we dream of, and want to do. See if they inspire you. I know they inspire me:

There's been so many things that's held us down
But now it looks like things are finally comin' around
I know we've got, a long long way to go
And where we'll end up, I don't know

But we won't let nothin' hold us back
We're putting our selves together
We're polishing up our act!
If you felt we've been held down before

I know you'll refuse to be held down anymore!
Don't you let nothing, nothing
Stand in your way!
I want ya'll to listen, listen

To every word I say, every word I say!
Ain't No Stoppin Us Now!
We're on the move!
Ain't No Stoppin Us Now!
