10 Practical Steps for What’s Next - episode 307

In our youth we probably fantasized about growing up, getting married, having kids, maybe having a career but we likely didn’t imagine what our lives would be like after all of that.

I know I didn’t.

So this episode we are looking at 10 practical ways to discover what’s next because you’re not done yet.

It’s the opener for the series Now What, God? Discovering Your Next Assignment.

You don’t have to know exactly what comes next.  You just need to be ‘brave enough’ to take a small step forward.

That’s your challenge.

He Won’t Make You

Thoughts from 10 Practical Steps for What’s Next

It’s true. We don’t tend to imagine what life will be like after all the things, the big things. And yet if you’re fortunate, and you are reading this, you are still here. That means there is more to do, more to be. I like to think of it as God giving you the framework of a beautiful house with tons of potential and you get to choose how to finish it out. What will you choose? How will you build out your house? How will you decorate it? How will you experience it? How will you show up?

My husband was a building contractor so maybe that analogy comes more naturally to me these days. I’ve also thought of our lives as an abundance of gifts under the Christmas tree and we get to choose which ones, how many, we will open and enjoy.

I don’t want to leave any blessings on the table and I want the same for you. Remember the five regrets of the dying? Living for others, overworking, suppressed feelings, lost friendships, and denying happiness. Good grief! We don’t want any of those.

And unless you have a crystal ball (doubtful) you don’t exactly know when you are going to be called for the final exit. Take a moment and check yourself with the above five regrets. If there is something that is missing, then by all means, go get it.

What are your thoughts around them? What are your feelings? Because they will determine whether you take action or whether you stay stuck. I know. I talk (write) about this a lot. It’s because I have experienced in my own life the difference it makes to say yes. I have seen many of you not know how to take that first step. What’s the hold up?

The thing is, God will not make you receive his goodness. On some occasions, yes, he will leave it on your doorstep, and other times he wants (hopes) you will say yes to what he has to offer. Would I have met some of the people I’ve met, had some of the conversations I’ve had, had some of the experiences I’ve had, unless I said yes? Maybe. But I doubt it.

I believe God is looking for partners. Don’t get me wrong. He’s the CEO, the jefe, the boss, the one in charge, and I am invited to participate in what he’s up to in my life by turning down my fear and being filled with his goodness to overflow. I get to participate. I get to relish in all he has for me. Yes, please. That.

From a ‘tear down’ to saying yes. Relishing the overflow.
