If Anything, be Kind - episode 59

If you’ve been listening to Unabashed You for long you know we’ve made reference to the time I worked in children’s theater.  It was fifteen years of joy.  I loved meeting and mentoring the teaching artists the most.  Today’s guest is one of those.  Andrew was always game for a new challenge.  High-energy, creative, funny and talented.  He has a lot to say about the women who inspire him which I thought was a perfect topic for him to choose.

Wouldn’t it be something if we would each take the time to share how others have inspired us?  Like Andrew did.  Do we do that enough?  Speaking life into each other is essential for our well-being.  You likely have no idea the impact you have had on others especially if you live by looking for ways to be kind. That’s something I love about this space.  We get to have conversations that will change the world, one chat at a time.

Curious. Loyal. Kind.

Three Who Inspire Me

Thoughts from If Anything, be Kind

In the same way Andrew shared with us three women that inspire him, I thought I would return the gesture and share three men who have inspired me.  I’ve written about my husband Ron, good friend Dennis; I’ve had son Shaun on the show a few times, along with my dad once.  So I am not going to write about them.  Yet they would definitely all make the list.  The other male guests I’ve had on the show influence me too for various reasons.  I thought it fair to exclude them as well.  I’m going a little less obvious for my three. The kind of people who likely have no idea they’ve made an impression unless you share with them that they have.

First let’s start with what inspire means.  Remember, word-nerd alert.  I’m going to pick out the words and phrases in the definition that speak to me.  According to Thesaurus.com:

  • To produce a thought, feeling

  • To fill with influence

  • To encourage

David, my brother

  • Forgave me for the years I was a not-so-great big sister

  • Mastered his interests - on his own

  • Calm in crisis (literally saved my life)

  • Strong opinions, yet very easy-going

  • Fun-loving

John, extended family

  • Faith-filled

  • Uniquely funny with a great laugh

  • Steadfast convictions

  • Dedicated to his principals

  • Initiator (started a non-profit for at-risk youths)

Joseph, family friend

  • Compassionate, kind

  • Artistic, creative, and a performer

  • Servant-leader

  • Believer

  • Mentor (for years to Shaun and many others)

There they are. This was a challenging exercise (in a good way!) to think of men outside of my every day life. Each one has left an indelible mark on me. For the better. Thank you for helping to shape my heart. ♥️
