She Sees God in All Things with Quiet Confidence - Part 1 (episode 274)
She is patient, joyful and learning. All great things to embody. I sit down with Haley O’Connor for a conversation that’s both lively and deeply grounded in faith. This is part one with part two airing next week.
We talk about what she’s watching these days (Paw Patrol, K-Pop, Somebody Feed Phil) and explore what it means to be a “spicy Christian woman.” For Haley it’s living with quiet confidence, holding to her core beliefs, and navigating the very real struggle of people-pleasing which is something many women experience. It’s a challenge for her, particularly in situations where she might need to speak up for her beliefs or hasn't fully thought through her commitments. Can you relate?
Haley shares openly about her journey of faith and how she sees God in the everyday—through her children, supportive people in her life, and even in life’s challenges. Rooted in her Jesuit philosophy of finding God in all things, she reminds us that even in difficult scenarios, there’s an opportunity to experience his presence.
Together, we unpack the courage it takes to speak up, the grace of flexibility, and the freedom that comes from trusting God in unexpected places.
Haley is our first guest for the series, Spicy Christian Women - Becoming All that and a Bag of Chips.
Patient. Joyful. Learning.

Thoughts from She sees God in all things with Quiet Confidence
Haley shared that she sees God in everything. She hears from him through family, friends, in the joys, and in the sorrows. In our faith we pray, we read, we sing (and some of us, dance). There is an additional way that I learned to hear from God back in the 90’s. It’s called response writing. I have shared examples of this from time to time in these pages.
A simple way to describe it is as follows: after you have written a letter to someone, include the response you’d like to hear. I have used this technique off and on since then. I have found it helpful in the answers I have been given, and healing in the comfort it provides. Also, on some level, I believe there is a strong possibility that the answers originate from the divine. (Ron is convinced they are. I can’t say for sure.)
Think of this: one of the best selling faith-based books ever is Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling, having sold over 45 million copies in twenty years. Her writing is listening to what God had to say or as she puts it “the words of Jesus.” She’s got 365 examples in the pages of her book, one for every day of the year. Now there may be a faction that disputes the authenticy and that’s just fine. But at the end of the day, if something brought you hope, gave you strength, and emboldened your faith, wouldn’t you call that a good thing?
So that’s where I’m at. Feel free to form your own opinions.

Dear God,
Good morning. Another day - a gift. I’ve gotten to have so many. Some I took for granted. Some I treasured. Some I wasted. Many were joyous. We each have the same 24 hours, and yet how do we use them? What should the ratio be of play, praise, prayer and productivity? Maybe it all depends on the day, and on our hearts, our intentions. I don’t want to be wasteful but I also want to relax, to chill as a way to recharge. May I have a healthy balance.

Dear R,
It is a balancing act and I get that some seasons require more concentrated time. You’re in a sweet season with time, how you spend it. I know you want to serve, to have impact for my glory, and for the joy that service provides. Transformation is a beautiful thing to be a part of. Keep your servant’s heart and you will see.
~ God
I am currently in the habit of this style of writing after I have done some morning reading. I read four chapters, write a few notes and then get to the letter part. Sometimes it’s related to what I’ve read, and sometimes it’s about something that is going on in my life. I don’t do it every day as I don’t want to get caught up in earning, or deserving who I am in Christ. I am already his, and he is already mine. Case closed. What I do here, and now, is my gift back. And it’s a joy, a sacrifice, and an honor.
Yes, this.
