Why Experience is More Valuable than AI - episode 315

What about AI?  Is it good, bad, neutral or all of the above?

It depends.  If used as a tool AI it can be very helpful.  It collects the information you’ve asked it to, in record speed.  Plan an itinerary, find a recipe, give the summary of a book, AI is there for you.  A solid resource if used with care.

It will give you more information than you will actually know what to do with, but let’s be clear. There is one thing AI cannot give you and that is an experience - a transformation.

Experience changes who you are.  Let that sink in.

We are in the series Now What, God? Discovering Your Next Assignment.

This is Unabashed You. Let's talk.

It’s Called AI for a Reason

Thoughts from Why Experience is More Valuable than AI

Artificial intelligence lacks the capacity for human connection although if you’re not careful you can feel validated. It will tell you things like ‘That’s a good idea’ and ‘I like it’ so that your input is being reinforced. It is programmed to do that. That way you will want to come back again and again. Keeping AI in the lane of being a tool can be tricky.

And newsflash! In case you didn’t already know, sometimes AI is wrong. I told the story on air of using AI to get clarity on how a movie ended. I was confused. In one scene the dad, seemingly okay, calls 911 and goes out to the front of his house to wait for the ambulance. In the next scene he is laying in a casket and they are holding a wake for him.

I thought if he’s having a heart attack (they eluded to a previous one) they would have showed us some physical symptoms. I didn’t see any, hence my confusion. No problem. I will AI the ending. I said something to the effect of, Did the dad die at the end of…(can’t remember the name of the movie right now)? The response, No the dad did not die. Not convinced I reworded my question and it came back the same, No the dad did not die. It made no sense.

Now I was not satisfied (frustrated actually, I wanted to know what I was missing) so I typed in the oval below the response, Well that’s weird because the dad called 911 and waited for the ambulance and then in the next scene his body was in the casket. And the response? You are right! The dad did die at the end of…

This was a solid reminder that we call it artificial intelligence for a reason. It is a tool, not your friend. So keep that in mind. Just sayin’.

This was AI’s idea of getting it wrong.
