You are Perfectly Good at Being Human - Part 2 (episode 305-2)

Burnout is real.

Putting too much of ourselves, and our lives, into our careers can make us miss out on the work-life balance we need.

Mel Wilson left her job to begin the next chapter of her career, and to restore a happier home.  It was not easy.  It was hard, and it was messy.  But she knew it was the next step.  Mel shares that messy action can build a beautiful life, if you let it.   The thoughts you have around what’s happening can be checked, and even changed.

You can build the future you imagine, the one you actually want.

Mel is our guest this week in our series What’s with All the Coaches and Why you Might Want One.  This is part two of our conversation.

You can find her at Proof not Perfect or email her at Mel@ Proof not Perfect.

Indecision is Not Your Friend

Thoughts from You are Perfectly Good at Being Human - Part 2 (episode 305-2)

If you let it. That seems to be something we tend to miss as we live our lives. We think we are a product of our circumstances and on some level there is truth to that but more significantly we minimize the power we actually have in those same circumstances by the way we look at things. We stop choosing action and choose indecision. That is a choice. No choice is a choice so let’s be clear about that.

Indecision will get you years of stagnation, of staying stuck. You might not even realize that is where you are and where you’ve lived especially lately. Have you sat yourself down in some quiet time and reflected on where you are in your life and if there is more for you?

I am big on the idea of becoming more you. Not someone else, not an improvement, but more you. You are already enough as-is but are you being and doing all that you want? That’s a question only you can answer.

You so looked forward to the earlier parts of life: school, marriage, kids, career, etc. but did you consider what this time of life would look like? If you’re like me the answer is no. So that begs the question: What about what’s left? Not sure. What’s next? No idea. Is there more? Maybe. If I die tomorrow will I wish I’d had the courage to show up more me? I believe the answer is yes.

So if you choose to be ‘brave enough’ to take a step, even a micro one, then I challenge you to do that very thing. Make a decision. Messy action beats no action every time. And don’t get bogged down with ‘the right’ decision as if there was only one way, one perfect, magical way. I have come to believe there is not. There are many ways up the mountain if that’s where you want to go.

Go ahead. I dare you because messy action builds a beautiful life. Just ask Mel.

What’s worse than doing it ‘wrong’? Not doing it at all.

— Cheers to messy action
