Confidence: A Powerful Place to Stand - episode 189

Wise.  Powerful.  Friend.  That is how I would describe this week’s guest, Arlana Scola as she shared many inspiring thoughts about confidence.  Like her definition: it  is knowing in the deepest part of yourself you’ve got it.  Even in the hard times.  This is especially true as Arlana’s foundation comes from her relationship with Christ, within that she doesn’t have to worry about anything.

Arlana’s three suggestions to strengthen your confidence muscle?

  1. Decide what you want to build confidence in: whatever it is (like public speaking)

  2. Make a plan of how you’re going to do it (practice in front of mirror, record)

  3. Go out and do it!

It’s ok if you fall on our face because doing so is a great teacher.  You can assess and grow the muscle.  If you thwart or stop you won’t make any progress so get out there and try something.

Arlana has been on the show before in The Wizard of Oz is Like Breathing to Me episode 30.

Arlana Scola inspires with simple steps to become more confident.

Keep taking one step forward and everything is going to be okay.

This Made Me Smile, Big-Time

Thoughts from Confidence: A Powerful Place to Stand

Do you like being encouraged? I know I do, and yes I love to encourage. If you know me even a little you know that for sure. This email was waiting for me recently in my inbox. Let me make some distinctions. This is from someone I went to high school with who is a reader of the blog but thus far not a listener, which he openly admits. I appreciate his candor and I am thrilled Matt Osborn took the time to share his thoughts. They made me smile, big-time. 😄

Mornin' Rechelle,

I'm just letting you know that I've been true to my word in avoiding tuning in to the podcast. But I wanted to say that I have enjoyed, and looked forward to, each email notice.  So, pretty please with sugar on top, don't dump me from your list just yet!

I can feel the joy you have in writing.  Your love of words comes through clearly.  You are talented at your craft.  Take for example, you treatise on a woman of a certain age trying on bathing suits.*

How are you able to project both the horror and hilarity of the circumstance in the same sentence?  I couldn't imagine the sensations felt looking in that mirror.  But you've depicted it well.  I now have a glimmer of understanding on an experience that was never on my radar.  Dudes have it so easy.  It doesn't matter if you look like Adonis or Friar Tuck.  Just strap on a pair of Birdwell's grab your stick and hit the water!  It is completely unfair.

Singing and getting the lyrics wrong**.....Have you seen the site kissthisguy.com (getting lyrics wrong)?  If not, I think you'll like it.  I recall a scene from 27 dresses with a drunken Heigl and Marsden destroying an  Elton John song.  What fun!  That guy can really sing.  Him crooning on Ally McBeal was wonderful.  Perhaps only surpassed by RDJ and Sting's version of Every Breath You Take.  That and everything Vonda Shepard did!  Silly as it was, I miss that show.

In my family I am banished from singing altogether...It is not hyperbole, I really am that awful.  But I love, love, love hearing my wife sing, and the very best is when our youngest joins her in impromptu duets.  They crush Disney love songs and lullabies.  I could listen to them all day long.

I don't want to talk about putting our animals down.***  I am the designated deed doer.  I hate it.  But if not me then who?  We're down to one old cat (she's lovely except when she yacks on the carpet).  When she gets planted in the back yard, I'm done.  Much as I love her, I am actually looking forward to the day when we can lock the door, get on a plane and see the world without worrying about whether the animals are ok.

Lastly, you should know I take the 'advice' in these notes with a grain of salt.   I, for example, have found that intentionally taking on a positive attitude and putting on lipstick**** can be uplifting....it’s just that red isn't my shade.  I guess my palette is more light spring than deep winter.  ;-)

Keep them coming Rechelle, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.

Matt

And do you see why I was so delighted? Thanks Matt. 😉
