My Third Act: Cakes! Episode 18

To know Tricia is to love her. She is gentle, kind, unassuming, thoughtful and wise. Traits I admire. Like me, she is in her “third act.” Meaning we’ve had a couple of careers and now as we head into our final act we get to assess what that will look like. Will it be relaxed and full of travel? (Not now with COVID but we can dream.) Or will it be philanthropic and volunteer-based? Or will we try something we’ve always wanted to try but have run out of excuses not to? With some life experience under our belts, do we feel confident enough to go for it? Who cares if it’s not a success. And what does that even mean anyway? There is a lot to be said for giving it your best shot.

Tricia had two topics she wanted to cover. One has to do with her third act. I am excited about her idea and cannot wait to, Taste and see that it is good. Chocolate cakes and cupcakes! May the venture be a success in EVERY way!

Compassionate.

Funny.

Discerning.

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt!

All You Need is Love

After listening to the episode you know that Tricia’s other topic has to do with love. Love God, Love People is the name of the song she mentioned by Danny Gokey. She loves the simplicity of the song and wonders if we all took the time, along with the intention, what the world would look like if we did just that - love.

There are so many songs about love - there must be something there. And I’m not talking about romantic love but love for your brother, love for your sister, love for an other. (Some of these could be phileo or eros. Take your pick.)

*All You Need is Love (Beatles)

*What the World Needs Now Is Love (Jackie DeShannon)

Can You Feel the Love Tonight (Elton John)

I Just Called to Say I Love You (Stevie Wonder)

I Want to Know What Love is (Foreigner)

Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Queen)

All Out of Love (Air Supply)

*Only Love Can Break Your Heart (Neil Young)

Love is a Battlefield (Pat Benatar)

I’d Love to Change the World (Ten Years After)

*This Guy’s in Love with You (Herb Alpert)

*Never My Love (The Association)

*The Look of Love (Dusty Springfield)

*Best of My Love (Eagles)

Crazy Love (Van Morrison)

Higher Love (Steve Winwood)

*My Love (Paul McCartney)

People Need Love (ABBA)

Let There Be Love (Bee Gees)

*Love Train (O’Jays)

Here are 20 that caught my eye. Most are favorites* from the past and some less so. Wouldn’t this make a GREAT playlist? And there were still a few that I didn’t include that are modern classics!

At last count there were 1,187 songs with love in the title. Ok, most of those are probably about romantic love. But still. LOVE. It’s the thing we all need.

One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life:

That word is LOVE.
