She Developed Grit and Resilience -episode 162
She was a corporate junkie for twenty years who went rogue about a year ago. Sim Colaco made a big change when she decided she wanted to become a health and wellness coach. She has a heart to serve women in particular who are struggling with skin issues, specifically psoriasis. Sim knows all too well about this autoimmune disorder first-hand. Who better to help than someone who has been there.
It’s the grit and resilience Sim developed along this path that caused her to choose a holistic approach that was better for her. Now she’s created the EASE, or ease method of eating mindfully, attitude matters, stress/how to manage it, and exercise as therapy all ways she instills a whole body approach to minimizing symptoms and maximizing good health. Who doesn’t want that.
We Have To
Thoughts from She Developed Grit and Resilience
We had lunch at Hard Rock Cafe in midtown Manhattan. I was in town to see a friend in his show (Mark Sparrow, The Early Side of Late) and then Ron and I were off to France. (First big trip!) While staying a few days in the city, Sim and I decided to meet in real life. We say “in real life” now and it even has its own initials IRL. Sim and I met during an online course. We were assigned to the same small group or as the coach called it, a mini-mastermind. Cute title, right? Sim, along with two other women (Naeemah and Sasha) and I had conversations in breakout rooms throughout our time taking this online course. We all bonded as many small groups do. We are still in contact today.
We were learning more about coaching in this program. I think I know what you might be thinking, There are so many coaches now! I agree. There are a few points to make in response. Isn’t a good think people want to help? Isn’t it a good thing people want to learn? It brings me back to something guest My Linh said. There are resources out there for everyone. If you’re not getting the kind of help you need, keep looking until you find a match that works for you.
Back to Sim who has been on the show before in Listen to Your Body. It’s been almost two years since the conclusion of the course we took together. We text, using each other as a sounding board, a source of support. We are both wanting to do more. We both want to come alongside women and be of help in the area we are passionate about, and knowledgeable in. We are moving forward because we have to. There is this thing in us that won’t let go until we are in the sweet spot of serving.
I wanted to write about Sim because I admire her. She inspires me. And I can relate to her challenges. There are 3 things I notice about my connection with Sim.
Power - We know this about each other and about each person out there. We have power. Power to say yes, to say no, to say not yet. Sim emboldens me with this reminder and I do the same for her.
Permission - There is an explicit honesty that is between us. If she thinks an idea I have needs work, she will tell me. If I have a suggestion she will listen. We have trusted each other from the start through sheer intuition the other has only best interests in mind. There is comfort in knowing you have permission to be vulnerable.
Possibilities - We get very excited for each other in all that is possible. Through brainstorming, sometimes just listening, or a much-needed monologue, the collaborative nature of our relationship celebrates what is now, and how we can get to what might be.
If we can do that for one another why couldn’t we do that for others too? We both have a heart to lift women up, to support them in living full, well, fruitful lives. And for some reason, we each feel a deep desire to do so. We simply have to.
